Overcoming the Fear of Public Speaking

One of the great paradoxes of life is that people want to be heard and understood, but often fear speaking in public. If we want to make a difference in our community, our city, our country or our world, we need to be able to speak passionately, powerfully, and persuasively to our friends, neighbors, and even strangers.

The Sherwood Town Criers Toastmasters club creates a safe environment to practice public speaking. In contrast to presentations made at work, school, or in front of most community groups, there are no consequences for “failure” within this club. Nothing that happens in the club meeting will impact your personal or professional life, and all other club members are there for the express purpose of helping you become a better speaker and communicator.

After practicing within the safe environment of the club, there are countless opportunities to practice your speaking skills in front of larger audiences – both within and outside the Toastmasters program. With the practice and confidence you develop within the club you will have the skills and resources to succeed in whatever venue you choose.
